High-Quality and IDD-compliant: Online training courses in
the insurance sector Case Study: vitero in use at ERGO
ERGO Group is one of the largest insurance groups in Germany and Europe and offers its customers in over 30 countries a comprehensive range of insurance, pensions and services. „Making insurance easier.“: In recent years, ERGO has consistently focused on being a partner for its customers, making their lives and everything related to insurance easier. This promise also applies to sales partners, employees and trainees. In order to fulfil this promise, ERGO offers a comprehensive range of training and development courses, which has been complemented by virtual trainings for over 20 years. The joint collaboration with vitero began in March 2015, and the vitero inspire software has been used to conduct the online training courses ever since.

Wide range of applications
The basic training prepares new and mainly employees outside the sector for the examination at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The webinars are conducted collaboratively and in smaller groups. Further trainings for sales representatives take place primarily in lectures with a large number of participants. „In terms of content, this mainly involves product and sales trainings,“ explains Frank Ullmann, seminar leader and trainer at ERGO. „ A further example of how we use vitero inspire are small learning nuggets of 15 to 30 minutes. This is a short and concise way of refreshing topics at the end of a year.“
Training with IDD verification obligation
Insurance companies must prove to the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority that they provide their sales employees with the mandatory trainings. The so-called IDD minutes serve this purpose. In order to fulfil the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), participants must achieve at least 80 percent attendance and 70 percent participation in interactions. „A unique selling point and one reason why we clearly decided in favour of vitero is the outstanding possibilities in the IDD context,“ explains Gunnar Dittloff, Technical Product Manager for e-learning. „In vitero inspire, the necessary metrics can be tracked automatically and reliably. This makes work much easier, especially for seminar organisation, and of course also saves a lot of time and money,“ adds Frank Ullmann.
With vitero create, the virtual team room was customised according to the company‘s own corporate design.
Interactive sessions in small groups
The basic training is currently conducted entirely online in webinars with 8 to 16 participants. In order to offer new employees an interesting introduction to the insurance sector, the webinars are designed to be varied and interactive. Frank Ullmann is enthusiastic about the integrated tools in vitero inspire: „From the very easy-to-use card queries, gestures and emojis to room backgrounds and effects, I like to use the various tools to suit the respective work phase. It‘s a fun approach and always goes down well with the participants. My aim is not just to impart knowledge, but also to create an experience. For me as a trainer, vitero really is the ideal tool for this purpose.“
Reliable support
In 2023 alone, over 800 appointments took place via vitero inspire. With the large number of training courses held at ERGO, most of which build on each other, good and fast support plays a very important role: „I could simply pick up the phone and get direct support. That wasn‘t possible with the previous solutions.“ Frank Ullmann has only needed support twice in the last few years and both times his questions were answered with fast response times and competent solutions. „As a trainer, that is exactly what I expect from reliable support!“
Close collaboration
Gunnar Dittloff emphasizes that shortterm agreements are easy to make with vitero: „Many issues can be clarified quickly and easily – either with the vitero customer consultants or even directly with the CEO. I have the feeling that vitero considers our concerns to be important.“ One example of this is the collaboration in relation to the interaction tracking: „We received very personalised support and the function was even adapted specifically to our requirements.“
High-quality online trainings
When training and further education at ERGO still largely took place in person, participants travelled to the training location from all over Germany. The high travelling costs were covered by the company. Frank Ullmann greatly appreciates the possibilities offered by vitero today: „Since vitero inspire allows us to work so interactively and with a variety of methods, we can also offer very high-quality training courses virtually. As a trainer, I can simply dial in online and everything I need for my webinars is available in the room at all times – without long preparation times.“
Joint further development
Online training with vitero offers unique advantages, especially when it comes to the IDD context, interactive and methodical collaboration, reliable support and customisation. For this reason, ERGO has been working with vitero for almost ten years. Further projects are already being planned for the continuous improvement of processes and further training.
