Consulting competence in live online learning “I couldn’t have imagined that” – consulting competence in live online learning

“Learning consulting on a screen? Unthinkable!” – Anyone working in the field of systemic consulting, therapy, or pedagogy is familiar with this skepticism. For a long time, there was an unwritten law: deep self-awareness, relationship building, and genuine, emotional learning can only happen in person.

At the E-Learning Summit 2026 in Ludwigsburg, this exact prejudice was disproven. A joint presentation by Valentin Frangen, continuing education consultant for digital teaching at the praxis – institut für systemische beratung süd, and Dr. Fabian Kempf, Managing Director of vitero GmbH, impressively demonstrated how initial skepticism turned into a true success story.

The turning point: from skepticism to enthusiasm

Since 1989, the praxis – institut für systemische beratung süd has been an established name in the qualification of professionals, traditionally known for a high-quality, interactive workshop atmosphere. When digitalization found its way into this sensitive area, the institute faced a major challenge: How do you transfer the dynamics of an in-person seminar into a virtual space?

The answer lay in a clear realization: Video tiles alone do not make a learning space. Conventional video conferencing tools reduce participants to rigid rectangles. The sense of space, movement, and spontaneous interaction is completely missing.

Perceptions shifted radically after switching to the virtual classroom software vitero. Practical experience gained from over five years of successful online teaching shows that participants usually reach a turning point after just one or two online sessions:

  • Familiarity just like in-person: The spatial and visual concept creates a genuine feel-good atmosphere where participants feel safe and close to one another.
  • Ease instead of digital fatigue: While many online formats are perceived as “sluggish,” trainers and participants in vitero seminar rooms praise the “pleasant ease” of execution.
  • Activating variety of methods: Working together on content using digital cards, thumb votes, dot voting, flexible breakout rooms, and much more ensures a consistently high level of participation and genuine interaction.

The result for the Praxis Institute? Online seminars that are almost always fully booked, excellent word-of-mouth recommendations, and the confidence that a well-founded online education can be just as good as in-person training.

A good room doesn’t make a seminar – but it makes it possible

The best technology only unfolds its true impact through the people who operate it. Therefore, vitero GmbH focuses on empowering trainers as much as possible, leaving them free to focus on what matters most: building relationships with the learners.

For this reason, the platform is continuously being developed. A forward-looking milestone also presented in Ludwigsburg is the KIBAKA research project. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and developed in close cooperation with Fraunhofer IAO, an intelligent AI assistant for educators is being created.

This system will support trainers in three central phases in the future:

  1. Intelligent Preparation (Storyboard 2.0): The AI analyzes presentation slides and automatically suggests suitable, interactive methods that are directly linked to turning the pages in the room.
  2. A Helping Hand during Live Operation: Educators receive real-time moderation prompts – such as a suggestion to initiate an activating exercise or a break if the group’s focus begins to wane.
  3. Well-founded Feedback: An automated effectiveness overview after the seminar helps to continuously evaluate and optimize training quality.

Conclusion: the future of learning is hybrid, human, and smart

The joint appearance at the E-Learning Summit has proven once again: digital teaching does not have to be impersonal. When technology aligns with human psychological and methodical needs, digital learning worlds emerge that inspire lasting engagement. A heartfelt thank you goes to Valentin Frangen and the entire team at the praxis – institut für systemische beratung süd for many years of trusting partnership and the inspiring practical insights shared in Ludwigsburg!
